Summer Recap

Here's a quick recap of my summer so far. I've spent most of my time working at Disneyland & stage managing Born to Ride the Waves for Huntington Beach Playhouse. I had loads of fun with BtRtW - met some really fantastic people, struggled through some challenges, produced a fun show & cast recording, and emerged with some new friends! Then we had a rocking cast party at the beach after we closed on July 20th. It was a super end to the BtRtW experience. And now, I really want to learn how to surf!

On those few days off from either job, I managed to squeeze in some relaxing fun. I went to see some people I know perform in Performance Riverside's Thoroughly Modern Millie. It was great to see them onstage again in a really fun performance and well done show. I also spent some time with family - hung out at the Osgan house, and even joined them for a movie on Independence Day. I spent a week house sitting for a friend - got to enjoy their jacuzzi, big screen LCD TV, play their Wii, and keep their cat company. It was like a mini-vacation. I've also seen a couple of movies - The Dark Knight and The X-Files. And I've finished off some good books.

And the summer's not over yet. This Sunday I'll attend a bridal show. Next week, I start transitioning to my new program at Disneyland. Later, I have a bacholerette party scheduled, a couple more shows to see, and more books to read. Here's to continuing the summer fun!

EARTHQUAKE!

Growing up a SoCal native, earthquakes don't bother me. That's not to say they aren't scary or damaging or anything else that would play down the seriousness of the event, but I live in SoCal - earthquakes happen. My condo faired just fine - a few small things fell off shelves or the table, but nothing fell over & nothing was damaged. Basically when I got home, I just had to pick up tipped over bottles of perfume, shampoo, etc.

If only I'd been home when the quake hit. Nope, I was a lucky participant of the quake while working. And since work is the Disneyland Resort, I was in a very safe place. I was in the middle of a Playhouse Disney - Live on Stage show. Initially, it just sounded like someone was climbing the stairs to the booth rather loudly & obnoxiously. When I realized differently, I got out of my chair to be sure I was feeling the ground move. The Cast & Crew did an excellent job of keeping the Guests calm & safe. Obviously, we had the cancel the remainder of that performance & we cancelled the next show as well while we waited for the venue to be cleared. No damage was done & we were back up and running for the afternoon shows.

I love that nature keeps us on our toes and keeps life interesting & ever changing. It's a good reminder that we are just guests on the planet. We get to enjoy the beauty & joys nature bestows upon us; but we should never forget, and should definitely respect, the power of the Earth to put us in our place.
